Women Physicians Leadership Council Endowment
Through philanthropy, you can help HonorHealth’s women physicians not only thrive professionally, but also provide the highest-quality care to patients and families in our community.
Your gift to the HonorHealth Women Physician Leadership Council Endowment will directly address the unique challenges faced by today’s female doctors, paving the way for them to be the best-possible physicians.
Importantly, your contribution provides a reliable and predictable source of revenue in perpetuity for the HonorHealth Women Physician Leadership Council. This multidisciplinary group helps all female doctors across our nonprofit network stay accomplished, supported and connected through an integrated network of physician leaders and initiatives.
Demonstrating the powerful impact of your philanthropy, your support of the HonorHealth Women Physician Leadership Council Endowment helps secure the Council’s ability to assist our women physicians for generations to come. It also contributes to HonorHealth’s culture of transparency that goes far beyond women to foster inclusion for all.
Facilitating a Bright Future for Female Physicians
Statistics reveal a critical need to help women physicians succeed and remain in the demanding medical field.
- 50-52 percent of U.S. medical school students are women.
- Only 30-35 percent of the nation’s active physicians are women.
- Nearly 40 percent of women physicians choose to work part-time or leave medicine altogether within six years of completing their residency training because of work-family conflicts.
- Only 7-18 percent of women physicians are in healthcare leadership, chief or editorial positions.
- Women physicians report a 20-60 percent greater rate of burnout than their male counterparts.
- In 2018, male primary care physicians earned about 18 percent more than their female colleagues. Across the nation, the average male specialist’s salary is now nearly 33 percent higher than a female specialist.
- A recent Harvard study published in JAMA Internal Medicine revealed patients of female doctors benefited from exceptional care and outcomes.
Driving these eye-opening statistics are the many obstacles women often face. These range from finite childbearing years, greater responsibility at home and more work-family conflicts to fewer role models and lack of flexible schedules. Others include limited promotion and leadership opportunities, less pay on average and reduced sense of inclusion.
