Impact Report | Patient Assistance Fund
Your gift provides peace of mind and healing
Patients who are uninsured, underinsured or living below the federal poverty level are at the greatest risk of falling through the cracks.
HonorHealth Patient Assistance Funds, including the Ellen and Howard Katz Family Patient Assistance Endowment, help ease the financial burden.
Your generosity creates a community where a sustainable, reliable source of revenue is available to help HonorHealth’s most vulnerable patients — tomorrow and well beyond.
And for that, we thank you!

“So many of our patients struggle with a reduced ability or inability to work. On top of all the other stressors related to cancer, patients often struggle with paying for everyday expenses such as groceries, gasoline, food and utilities. Through this fund, we are able to help by taking away even just a little bit of the pressure, stress and worry that they are experiencing. Thank you for helping our patients with this very important need!”
— MAUREEN STEPANEK, VGPCCN Social Worker
The need is all around us
Your gift makes an incredible difference for those in need, including the:
- 798,790 people in Arizona who are facing hunger – 269,610 of them are children
- 13 percent of Arizona seniors aged 65 or over living alone who may need post-hospital care
HonorHealth Patient Assistance Funds help pay for certain needs patients require after their hospital stay, including in-home services, medications or medical equipment. But the need is far greater than what this fund can serve.
Your generous support means your gift has exponential impact as it ensures vitally needed medical equipment and support services are available for patients who need assistance to follow their doctor’s orders. The result is faster healing, reduced readmissions and peace of mind for patients who face many struggles.
Your generosity in action
The Ellen and Howard Katz Family Patient Assistance Endowment is designed to be a growing and reliable source of revenue for patient assistance in perpetuity.
Your gift, along with those of other donors, is placed in an investment fund, carefully managed according to strict policies. In an endowment, the principal is never spent but interest earnings are transferred to HonorHealth to meet needs as they arise throughout the system.
A patient’s need for financial assistance is identified by an HonorHealth case manager. Those managers first try to connect patients with existing community resources to meet needs, preserving patient assistance funds for those who have no other options. The Patient Assistance Fund often bridges the gap while patients wait to qualify for government assistance programs.
Patients are not given cash. Instead, HonorHealth pays for services and items directly or provides vouchers for specific needs. HonorHealth has agreements with medical equipment companies, nursing homes, home health agencies and other partners, enabling us to garner the best prices and maximize patient assistance funds.
