State-of-the-art mother and child manikins for HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea Medical Campus Labor and Delivery

Labor and Delivery team trains on state-of-the-art birthing manikins

When new HonorHealth Foundation Trustee Tracey Hemstreet learned that the Labor and Delivery department was training on an outdated operational manikin, she immediately wanted to help. Her next step was a donation to acquire state-of-the-art mother and child manikins for the HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea Medical Campus Labor and Delivery.

Now the team is training with the true-to-life, tech-enabled simulator to be ready for any patient emergency during childbirth. The first training scenarios will be held at HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea Medical Center with the 50 doctors and 250 nurses who deliver more than 12,000 babies a year.

More than a childbirth simulator, “Adella” is a complete simulation solution with a comprehensive package of tools and support designed to help improve patient safety in women’s health through education and training. From early pregnancy complications, high-risk deliveries and postpartum emergencies, Adella will simulate a full range of obstetrical events, such as seizures and hemorrhaging, to facilitate teamwork and deepen critical thinking skills in healthcare staff.

Newborn manikin "Mary Elizabeth"Tracey, along with her husband Greg, gifted the manikins to honor two of the most important women in Tracey’s life – her grandmother and mother.

“My grandmother, Adella Jones, was full of inspiration and motivation,” explained Tracey. She was big on spirituality and was greatly invested in family, education and health… she was a beautiful soul. Always dripping with style and grace, she was the epitome of class. My grandmother was the matriarch that kept our family unit as one. I’m delighted to donate this manikin in her honor.”

Simulated learning activity offers real-time clinical experiences that are remarkably lifelike and anatomically accurate. Both manikins, Adella (mother) and Mary Elizabeth (newborn) will facilitate learning without compromising clinical technique. The smooth, full-body “skin” provides a very human look and feel designed to immerse learners in the simulation.

Innovation plus compassion is leading the way at HonorHealth for the most personalized and comprehensive care. Thank you, Tracey and Greg, for your generosity with bringing high-value technology into our training efforts to achieve the best patient outcomes.

Patient Assistance Fund grant helps family coping with dementia

The Russell family applied to the HonorHealth Patient Assistance Fund for help with their Aunt Linda’s care. Linda is navigating the dementia journey and was showing signs she could not continue to live alone. After review, the Russells were awarded assistance for her move to a skilled assisted living facility.

The Patient Assistance Fund is realized through the generosity of donors. The funds are managed by HonorHealth social workers and made available to patients in need to ease the financial burden experienced by patients and their families during a critical time.

The Russell family asked us to share their note of gratitude. We are honored to serve them and their aunt during this challenging time.

Dear HonorHealth donors and Senior Care AZ,

I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for your generous contribution, which has been instrumental in helping my family navigate one of the most challenging times we've ever faced. Your kindness and support have made a world of difference in securing a safe and caring environment for my aunt, who has been struggling with dementia.

For a long time, my aunt believed she had more time to live independently and did not prepare for the possibility of needing full-time care. When the reality of her condition became apparent, we were overwhelmed with the responsibility of finding a suitable care home facility that could provide the specialized care she desperately needed. Thanks to your donation, we were able to ensure that she is now in a place where she is safe, well-cared for and surrounded by professionals who understand her needs.

Your contribution has not only eased the financial burden but has also provided us with the emotional relief of knowing that she is in good hands. The stress of managing her care, while also taking care of my family's needs and settling her affairs, has been immense. However, the kindness and compassion you’ve shown through your donation have provided us with the support we needed to make these arrangements with confidence and peace of mind.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your generosity. Your support has made a profound impact on our lives, and we will always be grateful for the difference you’ve made.

With sincere appreciation,

Kayler Russell, Linda Russell and the entire Russell Family.

HonorHealth | CDW Healthcare Transformation Center officially opens its doors

HonorHealth / CDW ribbon cutting

On October 3, HonorHealth Foundation held a ribbon cutting to highlight our transformational partnership with CDW, and provide tours to our business partners, donors and staff through this center of innovation and technology.

With a shared vision to transform healthcare, the Center was established to drive innovation forward, which is essential for adapting to the rapidly changing landscape of healthcare and meeting the evolving needs of our communities.

CDW, a Fortune 200 company, is a leading multi-brand provider of information technology solutions to business, government, education and healthcare customers in the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada.

The Transformation Center is made of five primary spaces where HonorHealth staff can evaluate potential new solutions, practice real-time drills and train with simulation technology to elevate patient outcomes.

The Workroom. Also fondly known as the Mad Scientist Room – it is a place where boxes arrive and the work begins to build, configure and launch the initial testing of solutions. It is always in motion with new solutions to evaluate.

Beta Room. Once a solution is ready to be tested by HonorHealth, it's moved into an area where technical resources can continue to work on it, but also healthcare leaders and providers can come experiment, test and provide feedback.

Beta Room. Once a solution is ready to be evaluated by HonorHealth, it's moved into an area where healthcare leaders and providers can experiment, test and provide feedback.

Simulation Rooms (three adjacent rooms). Solutions that receive positive feedback are promoted to the simulation rooms where everything more closely resembles the real day-to-day healthcare environment. There, staff can operate as they would day-to-day and include the new solutions into that workflow. If that process goes well, it becomes a candidate for HonorHealth to roll out to a hospital for further evaluation. The Center simulation areas have traditional hospital rooms and ambulatory clinic exam rooms.

The concept here is to look at many solutions and move through a progression of increased testing and evaluation before it impacts real patient care and the day-to-day work of providers.

HonorHealth / CDW Healthcare Transformation Center

Home Health Room. The center also has a mock home space representing post-acute and home care. Together with the other spaces, the Center can show how patient flow occurs from home to hospital or clinic, back to home or post-acute care and even what happens when patients are out in their community.

Innovation labs are vital to healthcare systems. First, they foster a culture of creativity and experimentation, allowing teams to explore new ideas and technologies that can improve patient care and operational efficiency. By providing a structured environment for testing and developing innovative solutions, these labs can address pressing challenges, streamline processes and enhance the overall healthcare experience.

Second, they facilitate collaboration among diverse stakeholders, including clinicians, researchers and technology experts. By leveraging data and technology, these labs can pilot new models of care, improve health outcomes and ultimately drive transformation within the healthcare system.

The Healthcare Transformation Center was made possible through a philanthropic partnership with CDW and we are extremely grateful for their support and commitment to a healthier community.
