October 2025

Jared A. Langkilde, MBA, CFREDear friends,

Philanthropy is making a powerful difference in the lives of patients and families across our community. It’s advancing care in meaningful ways — improving outcomes, expanding access and offering hope. Patients like Lori, whose journey has been deeply impacted by compassionate, high-quality care, remind us why this work matters so much.

Thanks to generous support, we’re also expanding wellness class offerings — bringing more opportunities for healing, education and connection to the community we serve.

Today, we celebrate another milestone: the name change of HonorHealth Mountain Vista Medical Center to HonorHealth Four Peaks Medical Center. This isn’t just a new name — it’s a renewed and expanded commitment to the East Valley. It reflects the strength, beauty and resilience of the Four Peaks themselves, and the values that guide HonorHealth’s mission.

We’re grateful for every donor, every advocate and every story that inspires us to keep moving forward. Together, we’re building something extraordinary.

With warmest regards,

Jared A. Langkilde, MBA, CFRE
President & CEO

Patient battling ovarian cancer has immediate response to solid tumor antibody drug

Lori, 67, is amazed that her treatment for ovarian cancer at HonorHealth Research Institute (HRI) is working so well.

A hairdresser for decades until her retirement, Lori had a severely bloated abdomen in November 2022. “I was sleeping a lot, and I had no energy,” she shares.

At the urging of her family, she was admitted for three days of scans and other tests, which confirmed that she had late-stage ovarian cancer, which kills nearly 13,000 women annually in the U.S. alone.

Her initial treatments at another cancer treatment center started well and within six months she was in remission, but the positive effects of the drugs she received soon stopped working. Her oncologist tried three different treatment protocols, but none of them worked.

Running out of standard treatment options, Lori was referred to HonorHealth Research Institute to look for answers. She began her clinical trial treatment in January.

“It’s working, and that’s what I’m most grateful for,” she says. “Everything has really improved. My energy levels are slowly coming back up. It’s been good.”

And Lori couldn’t be happier with M. Rizwan Khawaja, M.D., MPH, an Associate Clinical Investigator at HRI’s Oncology Research Division and the Principal Investigator of her clinical trial, testing the safety and effectiveness of an antibody drug conjugate.

“He (Dr. Khawaja) was very hopeful that this would work,” she says of the drug, which gave her a rapid response. “It was immediate.”

Dr. Khawaja says that Lori has an incurable cancer, but that she has responded to the treatment.

Overall, she describes her treatment and care at the Research Institute as excellent. And the doctors, nurses and staff?  “I love ‘em,” she says!

Philanthropy in Action - October 2025 - Cancer wellness classes

HonorHealth Cancer Care support groups and wellness classes expand to more locations

Through the generosity of donors like you, HonorHealth Cancer Care provided a variety of exciting new patient support offerings in 2024, including the addition of three new wellness classes:

Therapeutic Drumming is now offered because of the kindness and generosity of donors. More than 20 eager Oncology and Neurology patients attended the first class at the Bob Bové Neuroscience Institute in January.

Gentle Yoga and Exercise classes got underway early this year as well with multiple attendees inquiring about additional classes and signing up to repeat both classes virtually!

Tai Chi and Qi Gong classes have been proudly offered at our Shea, Osborn and John C. Lincoln campuses. These classes are offered weekly, teaching new ways to manage the effects of cancer treatment. All have enjoyed great attendance and positive feedback from our patients.

And now in 2025, these wellness classes have expanded to both HonorHealth Deer Valley Cancer Care and HonorHealth Peoria Cancer Care, increasing access to connection, encouragement and shared understanding for patients with cancer and their families.

Philanthropy in Action - October 2025 - Real estate

You hold the key for caring in our community

Whether you’re selling real estate, a business or gifting appreciated stock, your decision can be more than a transaction — it can change and save lives. These transitions can be challenging and complex, yet they also present a unique opportunity and you hold the key to transforming challenge into care for our community.

Through tax-wise charitable giving to HonorHealth Foundation, you can turn these moments of change into life-saving service in our community. By gifting real estate, business equity before a sale and public stock, you may receive a charitable deduction and exclude all capital gains from tax. This double-tax benefit allows you to make a powerful and focused gift to our community while reducing complication and maximizing enjoyment.

There are several options for giving, including making a direct gift or percentage gift, donor-advised funds (DAFs), charitable remainder trusts, and charitable life estates. Each offers its own unique financial and charitable benefits, and our team is here to help guide you through the process.
