Making a difference in our community
On average, the HonorHealth team performs more than 200 medical-forensic examinations each month.
Since 1998, HonorHealth has been the sole provider of medical-forensic exams for patients age 13 and older for the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office (MCAO). Our program also cares for strangulation patients of all ages. Additionally, we provide overnight coverage for acute pediatric abuse cases, ensuring medical-forensic exams are available 24/7 for these child victims.
The Forensic Nurse Examiner program is funded by HonorHealth and receives some reimbursement for medical-forensic exams from the MCAO. However, ongoing philanthropic support is essential to offer this unique program.
HonorHealth’s Forensic Nurse Examiner program is a leader and model. Others have sought our expertise in creating similar programs in their communities. Our forensic nursing clinical training and preceptorship program is recognized by the International Association for Forensic Nurses as one of the few locations in the world to teach best-practice forensic nursing skills. Nurses across the state, nation and world are welcome, helping to address the lack of forensic nurses in Arizona and elsewhere. The program also provides the continuous learning, professional development and specific certifications required by the specialized field of forensic nursing.
Your philanthropic support makes it possible for the Forensic Nurse Examiners to serve a growing number of victims of interpersonal violence, as well as train the forensic nurses needed today and tomorrow.
