HonorHealth Foundation announces $3.5M investment to launch endowed chairs in Academic Medicine

[Scottsdale, AZ] — HonorHealth Foundation has announced a landmark $3.5 million investment in a campaign to launch Patrons of Promise, an endowed chair matching challenge to support HonorHealth as the primary clinical affiliate for the new Arizona State University School of Medicine and Advanced Medical Engineering (ASU SOMME).

"An endowed chair position is valued throughout academic medicine as the highest honor and often the pinnacle of a physician leader’s career," noted Jared A. Langkilde, President and CEO, HonorHealth Foundation. "Philanthropic investments by donors provide the resources needed to recruit and retain the most talented healthcare professionals and support their groundbreaking research, exceptional teaching and professional growth in perpetuity."

Academic Medicine - Patrons of PromiseThe Foundation will work with donors to secure charitable gifts of $2 million or more to establish each endowed chair position. A partial match increases the impact of each gift. The interest generated by the endowment provides the annual payout to support the endowed chair position.

"This investment will supercharge our efforts to attract and retain world class clinical and research talent to serve our community," said John Neil, MD, MMM, Chief Physician Executive and Network Strategy Officer for HonorHealth. "Helping to establish a medical school from the ground up is an amazing opportunity to set the new standard for medical education and will ultimately be a gift to our community that gives back for generations to come."

Arizona needs nearly 700 additional physicians to adequately serve Arizona’s current population, and that number will certainly continue to grow. Providing an exceptional education and advanced training opportunities to medical students creates a pipeline of physicians skilled in the increasingly complex and competitive healthcare environment.

Additional fundraising for HonorHealth Academic Medicine priorities will include clinical experiences, nursing scholarships and Graduate Medical Education support.
