A Historic Gift That Will Shape  
the Future of Medicine in Arizona 
What began as an unexpected turning point 
has become a legacy of hope. Years ago, 
after a serious accident on an Antarctic 
glacier, John Lucking was rushed home to 
Phoenix and into the ICU at HonorHealth’s 
John C. Lincoln Medical Center. The 
compassionate care he received forged 
a bond between the Lucking family and 
HonorHealth—one that deepened as John 
later joined the HonorHealth Foundation 
Board of Trustees. 
In 2025, that journey came full circle. 
John and Pit Lucking made a transformational 
$5 million gift to establish the Lucking Family 
Distinguished Chair in Medicine — the first 
endowed chair in HonorHealth’s history. 
Their investment marks a milestone moment 
for our community, elevating HonorHealth’s 
commitment to academic medicine, research 
and the training of tomorrow’s physicians.
