More people are facing cancer, too many
without equal access to care — and the
need for integrated treatment and research
continues to grow
l Maricopa County’s population is expanding
rapidly, which directly increases the number
of cancer diagnoses. More than 45% of cancer
patients in the county receive at least part of
their treatment at HonorHealth, underscoring
the strain on local oncology services. With
more than 41,000 new cancer cases expected
annually in Arizona, sustained funding is
needed to meet demand for diagnosis,
treatment and support.
l Low-income, uninsured and underinsured
patients face significant barriers to timely
and effective cancer care. These groups are
more likely to present with late-stage disease,
leading to poorer survival rates.
l HonorHealth’s Virginia G. Piper Cancer
Center focuses on integrating diagnosis,
treatment, clinical trials and survivorship.
These services require ongoing investments in
technology, staffing and research to stay at the
forefront of cancer care.
