Fourteen years ago, Dr. Chirag Patel was 
a young medical resident and new father, 
searching for answers when his infant daughter, 
Nala, was diagnosed with plagiocephaly, a 
condition that causes a baby’s head to develop 
a flat or uneven shape. The care she received 
changed her future — but at the time, Dr. Patel 
had no idea that the innovator behind that care 
would one day change his. 
That innovator was Jeanne Hertz, founder and 
CEO of Cranial Technologies. She would later 
be photographed with baby Nala for the cover 
of an Arizona magazine celebrating innovators 
and high-ranking women in business.
